What kind of newsletters do you think are most successful in bringing members back to the forum? I want to send out a mass blast on a forum with 100,000+ members in which only ~7,000 are "active" (according to vBulletin). A newsletter has not been sent in probably two years, so it can't be a simple generated "these are the hot threads", etc. I am sure we have things specific to our network that we can throw in, but I am curious to hear what has worked best for the rest of you for your forums.

I am curious about newsletters as well. My favorite forum newsletter is generated by the folks at AboveTopSecret.com: Conspiracy Theories, UFOs, Politics, and Many Other "Alternative Topics" . In fact I like everything they do- very well thought out community

A well-crafted multi-topic newsletter would be good. Actually, I don't see the harm in having a few links to some current "hot topics", as it might make them tempted to come participate in them, especially if they are "juicy" topics of some kind -- it really depends on the board topic.
