I don't think its the selling of links per say but more the fact that people buy them to increase their PR, basically manipulating the system, thats why Bama mentioned the nofollow attribute.

I PMed the guy back saying I wasn't going to change it but I could add the nofollow to his link if he wanted, haven't heard back yet.
