My old Forum, I had afew Trouble makers and lurkers who often set up Proxy IPs, And use Multiple Nics to Lurk the Board. If I would ban them they would come back under another nic and Proxy IP.

Any tips or ideas on how to prevent this from happening?

If you can find a programmer who can write a script to detect proxies, then so much the better. You can immediately ban anybody using a proxy who attempts to sign up in the forum.

That's the best idea. As far as I'm concerned, you have absolutely no reason whatsoever to use a proxy. It's like a fake ID, you have no reason to have one and most people use them to cause trouble for someone.

Unfortunately, it's something we need to stay on top of because just when you think it's safe, they come back.

Some posters do this because they may be posting some form of advertisements and in order for their posts not to be deleted, they would hide their true locations.

Spamming is still a ban on sight on 100% of forums anyway.

Still, if a member is causing problems, a more extreme method would be to report them to their ISP. ISPs have a terms of service as well, and if one of their customers is causing trouble, they're likely to beat them down for it.

I actually reported someone who was passing warez links around on a forum I moderated to his ISP once years ago. He vanished from my forum and also vanished from quite a few games he played as well a week later.
