Sponsor our Next Contest!

November 7, 2008 by Brandon Sheley · 3 Comments

We’ve had some very successful contest in the vBulletinSetup Forum. We’ve given away a number of vBulletin styles, they always seem to go well, we’ve also given away marketing ebooks as well as a book on Managing Online Forums by Patrick O’Keefe.

I’m now taking offers for our end of the year contest, if you don’t want to comment on the blog you can email me by clicking my profile on this post. We are interested in anything that a new webmaster could use, as well as useful apps/books/scripts that an experienced webmaster would enjoy.

I may end up buying a program or script for the contest if needed. I seen this article submitter that looks promising and isn’t too expensive. I’ve also thought about picking up this sitebuilder elite, but I don’t know if anyone would find it handy to have. Here is another one I actually already use, and it’s real affordable. Submit your blogs and RSS feeds to over 58 Top directories and search engine submission sites, automatically. I bought this one about 9 months ago and have been submitting our users forums and blogs RSS feeds to these 58 sites. I recently formatted my computer and had lost my files, these guys sent me the download link and helped get my copy registered after 6 months at that time, pretty stand up guys if you ask me.

Search Engine Optimization: The Real Deal

September 4, 2008 by Brandon Sheley · 1 Comment

After years of developing websites and creating a lot of user friendly material, the key to having a successful website not only depends on the quality of the content, yet how good your skills are at search engine optimization, or SEO. There are various methods and tactics to help your website tank well in search engines according to certain keywords you are trying to promote.

One of the most popular methods is link building. Building links of your website on other websites is something that Google and Yahoo use to rank your website. Many websites either buy these links or scatter the internet for highly ranked blogs or forums with tons of indexed pages and try to get something that’s called a “sitewide” link, or a link that is displayed on virtually every public page that’s on the website’s network. Each and every page has a pagerank which is determined by Google. The pagerank of every page is determined by the number of backlinks that page has. Simply put, the more backlinks a page has, the more respect Google and Yahoo will show for that website and give that website a higher pagerank itself and rank it higher in the search engine’s database for that keyword.

Advertising is one of america’s greatest pastimes

August 9, 2008 by Brandon Sheley · Leave a Comment

Advertising is one of america’s greatest pastimes. Some of the essential things are how our economy works day in and day out. From the small companies to the big companies virtually every company in America uses one form of advertising or another. These companies advertise on billboards, television commercials, radio stations, in virtually every other type of media outlet in today’s society. However, advertising is not limited to just big companies are small companies everyone in society advertises one thing or another.

There are certain different types of ways to advertise on the Internet. For General Advertising, there are two types of advertising methods. When is the publisher, their duties are to publish advertisements on either their web sites, magazines, books, media stations, or any other General Media outlet. These publishers get paid to sell advertisements on their publications. On the other hand, advertisers are those that one either sell their product or service the various types of online advertising methods. Some methods that we can look at all are pop-ups, banner ads, and in screen videos. These methods are generally used on virtually most of the monetized web sites, the blogs, and forum.

Advertising on the Internet and on print publications are some of the easiest ways to bring new customers and visitors to your web site. Advertising is a major factor in each and every person’s advertising and company budget. As a rule of thumb, is generally suggested you spend 10 to 20% of your entire portfolio budget on advertising your product, service, or web site. Very good webmasters or heads of companies generally ask around as to what is the best method advertising, and should do this to find out where your competition is advertising and what their statistics and results are from advertising at that given form of advertising.

Advertising:Real World

July 2, 2008 by Blake2181 · Leave a Comment

Hello again everyone. It has been a while since I had a time to post some things. But I am back with another one of those useful posts, at least I hope. Anyway, lets get to it.

So you made your website and you got it all ready to go, but now what? Well it is time to advertise. So how do you do it? Where do you go?

I have often found myself in the same delima. Should I go for the real word or the internet. So here are my thoughts on advertising in the real world.

Real word advertising

First lets look at the pros:

  1. No limits(Unlike the internet, there are no limits on where you can advertise. In the net world if you always have to pay for optimal placement. In the real world, there are no laws on ambush advertising.)
  2. Ambush advertising(This is a great tool in the business world. You can put ads anywhere or even if your crazy enough, places where they are not supposed to be at. This is a great advantage. I mean what can they do? Take your ad down, destroy it. But, it will be seen. Some, of the best ideas for this are; overpasses on busy highway, sides of buildings, street signs, crowded areas, college bulletin boards, flyers on cars, so on and so forth…)
  3. Full control(You have full control in the placement of your advertisements. Even if they are taken down, before that you have full control over where to put them)
  4. Word of mouth(In the real world trends travel fast. People see something they like and tell someone else. This is an advertisers dream.)

Ok now look at some of the cons:

  1. If you advertise in the real world people have to go to a computer and type your site address in.(This is a huge disadvantage next to the internet where you can just click a link)
  2. In the real world any type of advertisement is going to cost you money(Paper, radio, whatever your gonna have to shell out some change)
  3. In the real world there is no way of stopping people you don’t want to see your ad.(You can throw up a robots.txt and keep stuff hidden from the bad bots. And works same way in real life, bad people will see your idea.)
  4. You give competitors a visual target(This is very important in marketing and advertising. You never want to put a bad image out there about your product. If you advertise something thats not solid, someone will have a way to attack you.)
  5. It is alot of work.(You cant copy and paste your ad everywhere. You have to get out there and put it where you want)
