vBulletin Search Engine Optimization
Is your vBulletin forum Optimized for SEO ? Do you have 20 mins to Optimize your Search engine results ?
I’ve been running vBulletinSetup since June of 06, and in the first week I was able to hit the 1st page on google for a few of my good keywords.
So first you ask, what are good keywords ? I use Overture it will show how many times your keyword was searched last month.
The keywords I search for are usually under 5,000 visits a month.. I’m still a small site and wouldn’t make it against the high rollers..yet
Just play around and see what words are searched more then other.. We get something like 69% of our traffic from search engine referrals alone. Most are from the top keywords that I picked in the beginning.
Okay, on to the vBulletin forum itself…
If you’ve read about SEO at all, you know that the title tag is very important and carries a good deal of weight.
With vBulletin, they add a “powered by vbulletin” phrase that shows up on all your pages. I’m not talking about the footer copyright, but it’s what you’ll see in your browser title bar.
On to how to remove this..
go to your vBulletin Admincp, this is usually going to be an “admin” link at the bottom of your site.
Once in the admin panel, look on the left for the Language & Phrases and then Search in Phrases
In your Phrases Search for: x_powered_by_vbulletin (be sure to choose to search by Phrase Text and Phrase Variable Name)
Edit the phrase. Simply change it from {1} - Powered by vBulletin
to {1}
I’ll keep working on this,, it’s going to take me some time to get it all, you can always check the forums
